Member Sindh Provincial Assembly Nusrat Sahar Abbasi held Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) responsible for Tharparkar drought where more than 150 people lost their lives due to scarcity of food and water. She said that Sindh Festival hardly reflected the Sindhi culture.
“Ajrak and Sindhi Topi were put to wrong use. It could be a festival but it should not be associated with Sindhi culture”, she said.
Moreover, she accused Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman PPP, spending more than PKR 50 million for festival in historical ruins of Mohenjo Daro. “The amount could be served in a better way rather than a festival”, she urged.
She came up with advices and suggestions to ruling party in the province that Sindh has been constantly confronting natural disasters like flood and drought, adding, PPP leaders should not turn theirs eyes off to the problems which were being faced by masses.
“The natural disaster management and PPP should make a proper strategy and act instantly”, she further urged.
Recently, the MPA is actively participating in Human Rights campaigns across the country particularly for women and children rights. When Nusrat Sahar was inquired about her role in a party which is mostly considered as a conservative party, she was on opinion that it was wrongly portrayed by Media and opposition.
She ruled out the common perception about Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML-F) as a Hur clan political party, adding, PML-F is a centrist party of Pakistan, struggling for the rights of people.
“Its neither a nationalist party nor it serves the people of a specific group or tribe. In fact, it is one of the factions of original Muslim League having same manifesto and agenda of founders of Pakistan”, she said.
In response to a question despite PML-F as a centrist party is still confined to Sindhis, she was on opinion that there were historical events behind it. “The role of Syed Sibgatullah Rashidi against British occupation, and wide number of followers in the province are main cause of party’s popularity in interior Sindh”, she added.
When inquired about vote bank which is mostly comprised of followers of Pir Pagara Sahab, she said that it is a fact that party’s president has significant number of followers not only in Sindh but also in Balochistan and Punjab but the party is still passing through a process.
“We will emerge as a mainstream party and the party has already witnessing major changed”, she remarked.
About emerging political shift in the province where nationalists are holding rallies and protests on regular bases, she excused to comment. However, she acknowledged such activities of nationalists taking place, adding, the nationalists have a separate agenda and nationalist parties never won any seat for assemblies in the province.
When asked what motivated her to step into politics, she said that as an advocate, she had always participated in human rights campaigns, however, she never thought to become a politician. “It was my father-in-law who noticed my obsession for human rights and motivated me to step into politics”, she added.
She further criticized PPP for bad infrastructure and poor law and order situation in the province. “It is crystal clear a party in power can work to an extent that can make huge differences but the ruling party failed to deliver”, she remarked.
However when asked about PML-F role in the development of the province, she justified it by comparing the strength of their members in assemblies with the ruling party, adding, PML-F constructed roads in two districts of Khairpur and Sanghar.
Morever, she blamed PPP for rigging in elections of 2008 and again in 2013 in the province.
The MPA did not rule out over the losses of lives, livestock, and public property in floods of 2007 which hit the party’s stronghold district of Sanghar, turning voters to the other side in elections 2008.
